The son of one of Wales' most successful entrepreneurs, Trevor Matthews, is in contention for multiple Oscars at this year's Academy Awards. Matthews, 42, is one of the producers of The Brutalist, a three-and-a-half-hour epic starring Adrien Brody that has garnered international acclaim.

Born to business magnate Sir Terry Matthews, Trevor grew up in Canada before relocating to the US to pursue acting, eventually transitioning to producing. In 2004, he founded Brookstreet Pictures in Los Angeles, named after the street in Abercarn, his father's hometown in Caerphilly county.

Despite facing delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, The Brutalist has become a notable success, portraying the narrative of a Hungarian holocaust survivor's journey as an architect in post-war America. Trevor expressed pride in the film's journey and the support he received from his family, particularly highlighting his father as a role model for his entrepreneurial spirit.

Trevor reflected on the challenges of filmmaking, stating, No matter if you're making a $100m studio movie or a little independent movie, it really is lacing up your boots and getting ready for battle. You have to constantly believe in yourself and your team. The 2025 Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled for 2 March in Los Angeles.
