Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen asserted that Greenland is not for sale, rejecting U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's mention of President Donald Trump's interest in acquiring the island as not a joke. Speaking before an informal EU leaders meeting in Brussels, she emphasized, Greenland is today a part of the kingdom of Denmark, it is part of our territory, and it's not for sale.

Regarding Trump's desire to incorporate Greenland into the United States, potentially by using military or economic pressure on Denmark, Frederiksen reaffirmed that Greenland is not up for negotiation. She acknowledged the increasing strategic importance of the Arctic region for security and defense, stating, So if this is about securing our part of the world, we can find a way forward.
