The Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are set to terminate electricity connections with Russia and Belarus this weekend, symbolizing a major geopolitical change. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda described the action as a physical disconnection from the last remaining element of our reliance on the Russian and Belarusian energy system. The Baltic nations have focused on reconstructing power lines to link up with European Union partners, according to Litgrid CEO Rokas Masiulis. This disconnection marks the end of a relationship that originated during the Soviet occupation, spanning nearly 50 years until 1991.
