WARSAW, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated on Monday that any attempts to engage in trade wars are a significant error. This statement comes after U.S. President Donald Trump announced over the weekend that he would impose substantial new tariffs on goods from Mexico, Canada, and China.

Tusk emphasized, Poland will undoubtedly advocate for common sense and prudence. However, we must also unequivocally state that any intentions to initiate trade wars are fundamentally misguided, addressing journalists.

Expressing hope, he added, I trust that a resolute, explicit, friendly, yet firm European stance will resonate with the American administration.

In light of the looming possibility of facing severe U.S. trade tariffs, EU leaders on Monday emphasized the need for unity.

We must stand united without question. It is crucial to exert every effort to prevent internal conflicts among allies in the face of threats from Russia or expansion by China, Tusk informed reporters before departing for Brussels.
