On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he would likely decide by the end of the day whether to impose a 25% tariff on imports of Mexican and Canadian oil, set to come into effect on Feb 1.

We may or may not. We're going to make that determination probably tonight, Trump informed reporters at the White House.

Trump has consistently cautioned Mexico and Canada, both significant trading partners of the United States, that tariffs will be enforced if these countries do not cease the shipment of fentanyl and the influx of migrants across U.S. borders.

The office of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was unavailable for immediate comment. Likewise, Mexico's economy ministry did not promptly respond to a comment request.
