The Kremlin dismissed President Donald Trump's renewed threat to impose tariffs on BRICS nations if they introduced their own currency, stating that such a plan does not exist, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Peskov clarified that BRICS member countries, including Russia, are focusing on developing joint investment platforms, not on establishing a common currency. He suggested that U.S. experts may need to provide Trump with a more detailed explanation of the BRICS agenda. In response to Trump's tariff threat, the Kremlin warned in December that efforts to enforce the use of the dollar could have negative repercussions. The BRICS group, which initially consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, and China, has widened its scope to include other nations. While no common currency is in place, discussions on conducting transactions in national currencies have intensified following Western sanctions on Russia related to the conflict in Ukraine.
